A Manger Moment
The Manager Scene…
The manger scene. A wide range of people all meeting at the manger. From an unworthy virgin girl, a confused young man curious to know the truth, shepherds who spend their time keeping their flocks, and wise men/kings looking for one greater to bow to…all at the manger holding the King of Kings, Jesus.
As a young boy I remember helping decorate the house for Christmas year in and year out. Each year dreading pulling out ALL THE MANGERS. My mom had, and still does have, an obsession with mangers. Every year her collection grew. Her favorite was a life-like version with bright colors that was much larger than the others. One year while we were setting up I went down to the basement to grab it and remember dropping Jesus from the manger. Shattered and broken I looked down in fear and wondered what was to happen next. I slowly climbed the stairs to tell my mom, holding the broken savior in my hands. I remember thinking, “Great, she’s gonna kill me.” As I sit and think back to that moment I can’t get the picture of the broken pieces of the baby out of my head.
A King born to an unworthy virgin girl perfect in all His ways, now broken in my hands. A picture to remind me daily He holds us when we’re broken. He holds us when we struggle and holds us when we’re tired. In the Christmas season remind yourself of the manger. Both shepherds and wise men, a virgin girl and scared confused young man, each bowing at the manger of Jesus. They knew greater was a still to come! Trusting in the manger. Trusting in the Savior.
Jesus. He came for the broken to bring healing and remind us all, broken is beautiful. To this day that broken ceramic figurine reminds me of a time of correction (in nicer words) but also reminds me that in His birth and brokenness, I find healing. All because of the manger!
Merry Christmas
