A Manger Moment Day 9

A Manger Moment

Looking for a place to stay

In preparing for our long anticipated trip we pack our bags, prepare our documents, and load the car. Then we go over everything in our minds once again;

“Oil changed, check.
Tires rotated, check.
Washer fluid, check.
Full of fuel, check.
Extra cash, check.

Hopefully my pregnant wife can make it to our destination. The hotel is booked, and the hospital has great reviews.”

Just imagine how Joseph felt. Getting ready for the trip with Mary, making sure everything was in order. They didn't have cell phones and cars but I'm sure he felt the same responsibility that we feel today as we prepare our families for a trip. We have all ridden for hours ready for that final stop. Unload our bags, check in, find the room, and just fall in the bed.

How would you feel if you got there, and they didn't have any rooms left? Nowhere in town had a vacancy and the only place you had to stay was in your vehicle with your expecting wife? It didn't stop there; she went into labor that night and gave birth to your first-born child.

This is what happened to Joseph and Mary. She bore the Savior of the world. Not in a hospital or in a hotel, but in a barn. A small shack where the animals stayed, and the only bed for Jesus was a manger. The feeding trough for the animals. I'm sure Joseph was grateful to have something even though it was not what he had planned on. I can only image how he felt, not being able to provide adequate accommodations for his wife and child.

When we think we are in control and have a solution for any possible outcome there is no room for faith. Often times, God allows situations in our life to test and grow our faith. We must continually trust in Him for our every need. We challenge you this Christmas Season to let go of control and the fear and lean into the One who is for you.

Luke 2:10 states: “But the angel said to them,
‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people."
