A Manger Moment

"Joy to the world"

Luke 2;10-14 (KJV) 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Christmas holds the dearest memories for me as a mom, fabric woven with the threads of family traditions and the joyous anticipation in the eyes of my 3 boys. From the early years of their eager participation in church Christmas plays to the magical moments of them jumping out of bed at 5 am, bubbling with excitement over the gifts under the Christmas tree, each memory has etched itself onto my heart for nearly three decades.

As a wife and mom, these Christmas mornings have been a symphony of love, laughter, and the warmth of shared moments that transcend the material gifts exchanged. It's a celebration of family, of togetherness, and of the love that binds us through the years.

Yet, during these cherished family traditions, I'm reminded of the ultimate gift—the birth of Jesus, God's Son. It's in this season that God, like a radiant star, shines His light upon us through the selfless act of giving up His beloved son for the redemption of all. The manger scenes and carols echo the profound truth of God's love manifested in the vulnerability of a baby born in Bethlehem.

Now, as a mom of sons and a grandmother to a precious grandson, the layers of sacrifice and love embedded in the Christmas story resonate even more deeply. I see the nativity through the lens of both a mother and a grandmother, contemplating the magnitude of God's sacrifice as I hold my own family close.

In the twinkle of Christmas lights and the sound of carols, I'm reminded that the greatest gift is not found under the tree but in the manger—a tiny babe named Jesus, whose birth brought salvation and eternal hope. As a mom, I understand in a profound way the sacrificial love of a parent, and through the Christmas story, I am drawn closer to the heart of God, who gave His Son to illuminate the darkness and bring everlasting

JOY TO THE WORLD.
Joy to the World, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy

He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders, of His love
