A Manger Moment
“Before the foundation of the World”
Chaplains Bonnie and Michael Davis
Ref: Genesis 22:8, John 1:29, 1 Peter 1:18-20, Revelation 13:8.
The Jewish teachers are prone to say that God designated the place of the Sacrifice before He created the Earth (I.e., the Temple Mount). Yet, more correctly, God designated what and who would be the penalty offering which would be required to satisfy the rebellion and sin that man would produce. Long before Adam was created and placed on the Earth, long before he sinned in the Garden of Eden, long before Christ’s death was ever accomplished to undo the damage of sin, God’s plan was devised that he would introduce Himself into a manger in Bethlehem to be the required sacrifice.
Clearly from Genesis to Revelation we see the promise of a Coming Messiah. Among our favorite proofs, in the Genesis 22 passage, Abraham, speaking in faith, tells Isaac that “God will provide himself a lamb”. Later in the Gospels, when John is baptizing near the Jordan, he sees the approaching Yeshua, and declares: “behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world”. Likewise, the Book of Isaiah is filled with Messianic references. We are much in awe of these Scriptures which show us the plan of God and the birth of the Christ-child during the Christmas season. God bless you and yours.
