A Manger Moment Day 2

A Manger Moment

"The Wait"

Christmas time, the best time of year filled with christmas music, family time, the story of Jesus, Christmas tree cakes (yum) and GIFTS! Everyone loves gifts, but every now and then you have people like me who can't stand a surprise. I don't like waiting to receive a gift, but I also hate the anticipation of gift giving! I get filled with excitement and can't contain myself.  I start saying things like: "I know what your gift is!" or "You are gonna love your gift, it's the best ever!" It's obvious that I struggle with waiting. Waiting to give but also waiting to receive the gift! But sometimes waiting can be good! Most of the time the gift is worth the wait! Especially when that first box of Christmas Tree cakes shows up in the pantry at home. But sometimes waiting for a season is tough!

Imagine Mary waiting with anticipation and excitement, knowing the gift she was carrying not only for her, but for the world!

Luke 1:26-38 NLT
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” 29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” 34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” 35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. 36 What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. 37 For the word of God will never fail.” 38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.

Mary found favor but was now in the waiting period. Filled with emotions like fear, joy, excitement and nervousness all while WAITING! Waiting on God means doing everything you can and surrendering everything you can't! In her waiting she was forced to trust God in His selection, in His pick of Mary and Joseph. Waiting produces trust, which in turns produces the gift! I want to remind you today trust God in the waiting. Whatever you are praying for today, whatever you are seeking God for, keep waiting. Keep trusting Him. The Gift is worth the wait!

3 Keys to waiting

1. Prayer
-You can't control how long you may have to wait but you can control how you respond in the waiting!

2. Patience
-God's speed is quick but sometimes His clock feels slow.

3. Passion
- Passion gives vision to the wait!

Keep on waiting! It will be worth it!
