A Manger Moment
Christmas from the Satterfield perspective
Beyond the candy canes, decorations, good food, and presents lies the true meaning of Christmas….
Matthew 1:21& 23 (21) she will give birth to a son, and you are to call him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. (23)Behold the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which translated is God with us.
Luke 2:1&3 (1) In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (3) and everyone went to their own town to register.
Due to the fall of man in the garden, sin separated man and God. So God gave the law, which required different sacrifices/offerings. None of these offerings allowed the common man, everyday people to access God. So God in all his love sent his only son in the form of a baby, spotless, without blemish to become the greatest gift ever given. Jesus, Immanuel; came, lived a sinless life, and went to the cross to die so that you and I could have a relationship with God! Wow!
So when I think of the Christmas story many things come to mind…
A young couple ready to give birth, having to leave their home to go to another town to be counted. The wise men and shepherds who listen to an angel and follow a star. I think of the faith these people must have had. It never ceases to amaze me as I’m reading the stories the number of times I think “man I don’t think I would of responded that way!” and God loved us so much he set all of this into motion so we could be with him, blows my mind! There's nothing wrong with the candy canes, decorations, gifts, etc but let’s also remember this Christmas God loved us so much he sent his son, Jesus to die for us!
Immanuel- God with us!
