21 DAYS OF PRAYER & FASTING (JAN 6-26, 2024)

JOIN US FOR CORPORATE PRAYER JAN 6, 13, 20 at 8AM at the main campus 10777 County Rd 138, Bay Minette, AL 36507

Why 21 days?

21 days is the standard for creating a habit.  We are wanting prayer and fasting to be as regular in your life as brushing your teeth.   Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

Our goal as a church is for each person to participate in this fast in one of the ways below. We never want people to feel like a failure or for them to feel as though they aren't good enough. Prayerfully consider what God would have you to do, be constant and watch how God changes you.

Types of fast

Your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.
COMPLETE FAST
In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.
SELECTIVE FAST
This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.
PARTIAL FAST
This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.
SOUL FAST
This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
INTERMITTENT FAST
Intermittent fasting involves entirely or partially abstaining from eating for a set amount of time, before eating regularly again.  There are numerous ways to do this however we are giving this example.  12 hour fast.  A person could choose to fast between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. They would need to finish their dinner before 7 p.m. and wait until 7 a.m. to eat breakfast but would be asleep for much of the time in between.  Or 16 hour fast.  Fast between 6pm and 10am.

Duration of fast

As a whole we will fast for 21 days however not necessarily everyone for the whole  days.  We just want everyone to do something within the allotted dates. For example, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 21 days or 30 days.

Important note

The time you would normally spend eating or doing whatever you decide to give up, use that time to read your Bible and Pray.  Don’t leave this out, it is the most important part of fasting.  Matthew 4:4 (NKJV) 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
