A Manger Moment
Jesus, the best gift of all!
Brad and Charlotte England
Today’s devotional comes from Luke chapter 2.
Joseph and Mary had traveled to Bethlehem to register for the census. While there it came time for Jesus to be born. An angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds to share the news of the great joy of Jesus! Out of all the people the angel could have appeared to, it was the shepherds.
The shepherds were a necessity to their community , but not necessarily wanted. They were dirty and smelled bad, and were around animals all the time. Someone had to look after the flocks of sheep!
The Bible tells us that the angels appeared to the shepherds first. The shepherds upon hearing the good news, immediately left and went to see for themselves the baby Jesus. When they had found him, they left rejoicing and quickly spread the news about all they had encountered and saw. Everyone who heard it was amazed.
The shepherds could have very easily stayed in the fields and made excuses about how scared they were, their work situation, or even their social status, but that didn’t stop them. They knew that this couldn’t be kept to themselves. This gift was meant to be shared!
During this Christmas season, will you share about the gift of the eternal salvation that Jesus has given you? It’s to good to keep to yourself!
