What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Crossroads Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.  We are a Church of God, Cleveland, TN congregation and for more information about the denomination please go to http://www.churchofgod.org

The Holy Bible

The entire Bible is inspired by God. It is the highest authority of truth. It is without error and is eternal. (2nd Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Hebrews 4:12)

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Jesus Christ

Jesus is the Son of God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified, buried, and resurrected from the dead. He ascended into Heaven and is interceding for our sins. (John 1:14, 1st Timothy 3:16, 1st Timothy 2:5, Philippians 2:5-11)

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit was promised to come down when Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven. The Holy Spirit exalts the ways of Christ and guides believers to truth. We believe that the fruits of the Spirit are most effective when one is Spirit-Filled. We believe in exercising the spiritual gifts that God has given us in an orderly way. (1st Corinthians 12:1-11, 14:1, 14:26-33)

Salvation

Salvation is a gift from God, not to be obtained by our works, but by faith in Jesus Christ.  Jesus came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.  (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9-10, John 3:16, Titus 3:4-7, Acts 16:31)

Healing

We believe that the opportunity for healing in the name of Jesus is available for all as was illustrated by the life and actions of Jesus. (Psalms 103:3, Isaiah 53:5, Mark 16:17-18, James 5:14-16)

Water Baptism

Water Baptism is a commandment of Jesus that He participated in while on this Earth. It is the symbolic testimony of change that occurs spiritually when one is saved. We believe in baptism by immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16, Acts 8:12, John 1:32-33)

Communion

Communion is a symbolic act. We believe communion represents the Lord’s Supper. The elements: Bread, representing the body of Christ that was broken on the cross, and Juice, representing the blood of Jesus that was shed, are taken in remembrance of His suffering on the cross for the world. (Matthew 26:26-29)

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ressurection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.
