Day 8

New Life

Video testimony of Clayton and Hannah
Yesterday, after two incredible church services, I received a text from one of our members.  After prayer this morning I can't get away from the words in the text.  So today's devotion is wrapped up in the words of his message coupled with Clayton and Hannah's testimony above.  Here is a copy of the text message.

From a Church member:  I wanted to share with you what the Spirt spoke to me during the worship service this morning. Satan has deceived my people and put them in a spiritual coffin, they are afraid to proclaim the good news of the gospel as Jesus said in the great commission. And now the Lord is going to unlatch and open the lid and begin to fill them with the the Holy Spirit. They will be of all ages from the youngest to the oldest. They will be given the gifts of the Spirit and the boldness to operate in them and the Lord will receive all the glory and honor for it. So make way for the things you are about to see for they will be people coming from the north the south east and west to witness and be a part of what the Lord is doing

My response:  What a powerful picture. I’m immediately thinking about the widow of Nain. Her son was dead and her hope was gone. All people did for her was mourn until Jesus came on the scene. Somewhat similar to people today. They only help after the fact. But we through the power of Jesus can do better than that. Sons are coming back to moms. Hope is being restored. New life is coming out of death.

Luke 7:11-17 New Living Translation (NLT)
Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son
11 Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him. 12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. 14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.” 15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.

16 Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying, “A mighty prophet has risen among us,” and “God has visited his people today.” 17 And the news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding countryside.
