****Last week during our Kids camp I had the opportunity to preach on Tuesday night. Here are th notes. Enjoy. All that’s missing is Owen running around in the Flash costume.***
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”” Acts 1:8 NKJV
Barry Allen was just a normal science nerd until the day the particle accelerator blew up. He was struck by lighting. When he was struck by that lighting, it gave him a power he didn’t have before. Now he could run faster than any man on earth. He could save lives, he could make a difference. He drew his strength from the power of the lighting bolt and the speed force.
Without the power of his speed, his enemy could defeat him. Meta humans who had a different type of power. Their power was evil. Barry’s power was good.
You and I have the opportunity tonight to experience the power of God. When the power of God comes upon you, you might not be able to run faster but you will be able to stand against the enemy. You will be able to not be ashamed of the way Jesus has changed your life. And you will have a boldness to stand up for what you believe.
Illustration – Bring up 12 and a Jesus
The disciples of Jesus were afraid after He was killed on the cross. But Jesus came out of the grave and was raised back to life. Jesus met with his followers after he rose from the grave and told them to wait until God sends his Holy Spirit to the earth and that Holy Spirit would give them the power they needed to never be afraid again. All they had to do is wait.
Tonight you can receive the same power they received.
When the power of God fills you, you don’t have to hid your identity. You don’t have to wear a costume and hid who you really are. In fact when this happens everyone knows your purpose because God has given you His plan for you.
In order to receive you must first believe the same way you believed for salvation.
Example: Nicodemus – John 3 – Born again
There are many reasons why we run. Most of the time it’s to avoid what’s right in front of us. Fear, to not have to face whatever is bothering us. Perhaps we feel weak, too small but with the power of God we can stand tall!!!
Obviously there was a lot more to that night then these simple words. We saw 6-12 year olds crying out for more of God, desiring to be full of God’s power. Because they understood that they needed His strength to stand up to the enemy. Have the same faith as those little kids and receive today all the God has for you.
Acts 19:1-6New King James Version (NKJV)
Paul at Ephesus
19 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”
3 And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?”
So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”
4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
