Yesterday, Pastor Richie said “True love on display is in how you walk: Walk in love, Walk in life, Walk in wisdom.” He paralleled the act of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet to keys to a successful marriage. Pastor discussed this in detail and I encourage you to go back and watch the sermon! But what stood out to me was the over arching theme of “Love in Action.”
Today, 6 years ago I saw Jessie for the first time. We were in church, where he was playing guitar with Lee Singers and I was in the congregation. He was so shy that he did not even speak to me that day, only stared at me from across the room! Yet, that action, no matter how subtle it was stuck with me. For two days, I thought about the random guy that was staring at me from the stage. I did not know his name, his story, nothing at all about him. Two days later, Jessie messaged me on facebook (still too shy to confront me in person) and 6 years- 2 years of dating, 4 years of marriage, and a 2 month old baby later- here we are!
I think that if I had not seen Jessie that day staring at me, I would not have been as excited to receive the message from him. But because I had seen his actions first, his words carried substance.
Romans 12:9 says “Love must be sincere.” To me, sincerity is shown best in actions. When Jesus washed the disciples feet, as pastor mentioned Sunday, He was saying “You matter.” Jesus was leading by service. And not just serving so others would see, but sincere service from a heart of love. Love in action is Love with service.
This week, choose to serve someone you love. Maybe it’s cooking dinner for your best friend who just lost his/her job. Maybe it’s watching the kids so your wife can have some girl time. Maybe it’s something else! Whatever it is, put your love in action this week! Love is more than chocolates or stuffed animals, it’s Action! It was clearly modeled through the life of Jesus and we are called to model our life to His! Romans 12:11 says “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” Serve the Lord with zeal by loving others with action!
Have a great week!
