Matthew 6:5-6 says, “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
It’s very easy to get caught up in who is watching us and what they are thinking and there are even times when we find ourselves letting these thoughts overtake the real meaning of what we were called to do in the first place. When we gather together to worship with music, sometimes it can be tempting to allow the crowds around us, the style of music, even the stress of the drive to church to overtake our thoughts and our worship simply becomes vain repetition instead of sweet fragrance to the Lord. We were created to worship the Lord. We were made to worship. Whether in our closet at home or the pew with our fellow church goers, it is important to worship with a heart that cries, “This is all for you Jesus.”
Truly, in life everything we do should be with an attitude of worship to an audience of One. When we begin to think this way, even the not so great tasks like taking out the trash when the bag has busted all over the floor, or your boss assigning you to work on a project in an area you struggle with can become acts of worship as unto the Lord. When we begin to think this way, the daily grind is not so much of a grind but a daily act of joy and worship to the Father who has given us breath to live and the ability complete even the most challenging of tasks with an attitude of praise unto Him.
Today, try not to look to the right or to the left for your approval, but look up with a heart of worship to the Father who hears your cries, and who longs to inhabit the praises of His people, not just in the pews on Sunday, but in the traffic of Monday. Let your life be a song that glorifies your audience of One.
Have a great week!
